Sree Vishnu has his success. Comrade Kalyan has achieved break-even at the box office, with its worldwide gross set to cross ₹16 Cr by the end of today, its sixth day in theatres. The film has emerged as a clean success, and it comes at the right time for the actor after a difficult start to the year.
Break-Even in Six Days
Comrade Kalyan was made with a break-even target of ₹16 Cr gross. The film opened with ₹12 Cr worldwide in its first weekend, held strongly on Monday with around ₹2 Cr, and has continued to collect steadily through the weekdays. By today, the total crosses the ₹16 Cr mark, taking the film into the safe zone in less than a week.
Everything the film collects from here adds to the profits for its buyers.
A Much-Needed Relief for Sree Vishnu
This success means a lot for Sree Vishnu. His two earlier releases this year, Vishnu Vinyasam and Mrithyunjay, did not work at the box office. After back-to-back failures, there was pressure on Comrade Kalyan to deliver.
The film did not arrive with much craze, and the reviews that came in on opening day were below par. Many had doubts about its chances. But audiences backed the film from the Friday evening shows, word of mouth turned out to be better than the reviews, and Sree Vishnu’s pull at the box office showed once again.
For an actor who built his career on entertaining, content-driven films like Brochevarevarura, Samajavaragamana and Om Bheem Bush, Comrade Kalyan is a reminder that audiences continue to back him when the film entertains them.
The Real Test Starts Tomorrow
The concern now is screens. From tomorrow, new releases start arriving one after another, all targeting the Dasara festival season:
- Jailer 2: October 15
- Ranabaali: October 16
- Crazy Kalyanam: October 16
- Garividi Lakshmi: October 17
With so many new films coming in, Comrade Kalyan’s screen count will be reduced across the Telugu States. The Dasara holidays will bring bigger crowds to theatres, but with fewer shows, the film will have to make the most of the screens it keeps.
Since it has already crossed break-even, any additional collections during the festival will be a bonus. If it holds on to a good number of screens, Comrade Kalyan can add healthy profits over the Dasara weekend.
